Wine:

Château Smith Haut Lafitte 2001 is a Pessac-Léognan of exemplary maturity. With its freshness preserved by the natural tension of the Sauvignon, bringing with it notes of grapefruit and exotic passion fruit and fresh mango overtones, this 2001 is a real treat for the senses! The palate preserves a lovely consistency, a balance in which the oak is smoothly integrated, and a soft mixture of purity and elegance, the indelible signature of a "grand vin".

Vinification:

Harvesting by hand, 2 days' settling in small vats, 12 months' ageing on the lees with regular bâtonnage (stirring) in barrels produced in the château's cooperage, of which 50% are new and 50% previously used for one fill.

Color:

Bright, deep yellow.

Nose:

Aromas of honey, notes of grapefruit and fine citrus.

Palate:

Well-structured with a nice balance between acidity and minerality, an astonishingly fresh finish and a persistence that give complexity to the whole.

Temperature:

Serve between 10-12°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Lobster with citrus fruit, grilled sea scallops, pike-perch a la plancha, oven-roasted veal.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2023

A star of Pessac-Léognan, Château Smith Haut Lafitte's ascent continues unabated. Everything that can be done, has been done, to marry modernity with excellence including an in-house cooperage, biodynamic growing, and ultra-precise selections and blends in which there are no false notes. Awarded consistently high scores from Parker, the wine is very highly rated. The great popularity of both the red and white "grands vins" have made it one of the most sought-after crus classés today.
