Achieving a flawless 100/100 Parker rating, the 2021 Red Ribera del Duero Pingus is yet another extraordinary wine, standing shoulder to shoulder with the sensational 1996, 2016, and 2018 vintages—and perhaps even surpassing them, as Peter Sisseck notes the wine’s refined texture. Sourced from two small parcels of ancient Tempranillo vines, along with a few endemic plants, planted in 1929 in the village of La Horra, this wine is the epitome of Pingus' magic. Only the finest lots from this micro-terroir are selected to create the iconic cuvée. The result of a rigorous selection process, minuscule yields, and aging in large 20 hl containers followed by maturation in barrels without new wood, this vintage adds to the myth and its legendary rarity. The 2021 vintage has everything in abundance: depth, concentration, and tannins, coupled with an exquisite youthfulness, impeccable balance, and vibrant energy. This is a bottle that will undoubtedly leave its mark on the history of the estate.Vinification:
Hand harvested. Old vines over 80 years old with very low yields. Vinification based on a non-interventionist approach. Pre-fermentation maceration in 2.5 hl tuns. Aged for 20 months in 225- and 500-liter French oak barrels.Color:
An intense red with purple edges.Nose:
The aromatic complexity of this wine is remarkable, with aromas of red fruit and lightly roasted accents.Palate:
A velvety palate through this rich, powerful and full-bodied structure, a wine of delicate texture and extreme refinement.
Temperature:
Serve between 14 and 16°C.Food and wine pairing:
Grilled or simmered red meats in sauce, small game, cheese platter.Cellar aging:
From now until 2044
Brilliant oenologist Peter Sisseck—affectionately known as Pingus—has transformed the Spanish wine landscape. In the heart of Ribera del Duero, he established Dominio de Pingus in the 1990s, recognizing the extraordinary potential of ancient Tempranillo vines.
With a commitment to organic and biodynamic practices, near-century-old vines, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, luxurious aging in oak foudres, prized terroirs, and native grape varieties, every element contributes to the singularity of this iconic wine, now regarded as a cru in its own right.
Pingus has ascended to become one of the world’s greatest wines, earning a perfect 100/100 Parker rating on numerous occasions, including the 2021 vintage we present to you. Sisseck’s relentless pursuit of excellence has positioned Pingus as a beacon, leading the renaissance of the Iberian Peninsula.
